Reasons You Should Always Trust Your Mac

Wow, I just finished reading a blog post on Thought Catalog that really got me thinking for all of the wrong reasons. I suggest you read their post before you continue (http://thoughtcatalog.com/harris-sockel/2014/03/never-trust-a-mac )

Anyways, the post got me thinking about the reasons I prefer Mac OS to Windows (especially Windows 8). I warn you this post will be full of clichés, sorry.

THE FUNDAMENTALS

1.     Apple products simply allow you to spend more time actually creating…  Once upon a time I was PC user, in fact I considered myself a power user. I spent hours engaging in ridiculous script kiddy activities, “customizing my UI, and rigging my machine. You know what I didn’t spend a lot of time doing? I didn’t spend my time actually creating anything productive. I utilized my time attempting to improve the faulty operating system that came with my inadequate computer. This seems to be a common trend among those PC users who claim to have reasons for using Windows too advanced for the rest of us to comprehend.

In all honesty it is astonishing how once I obtained my first Macbook I almost instantly started creating amazing work. The beauty of Mac OS is that you can ignore it; you can simply get in front of your machine and start doing the tasks you set out to do. You can spend hours working and never get a notification from the operating system other than the occasional low battery alert!  That leads me to my next point.

2.     Software updates, have you noticed that when you purchase a Windows computer your hard Drive space slowly begins to vanish until one day you wake up and you no longer have any available space lol. Windows is ridiculous when it comes to the amount of updates that need to be done on a daily bases, for god sakes how many times do you need to reboot your god damn computer in a week, its obscene. How are you to ever get anything done?

3.     Stability… this is a cliché and a lot of misinformation has been put out there in the past. Mac OS is vulnerable to software virus just like all other operating systems however the fact of the matter is that there are simply less Mac dedicated viruses out there. In addition to that you can count on Apple to address any prominent issues quickly. The entire time I have used Mac OS I have only ever had one system crash, and at some point a few months ago my dock started acting up due to a bug that my MacBook picked up somewhere the issue was addressed the same day, and on top of that Mavericks was released a few months later which dramatically improved my overall user experience, thank you Apple J.

THE SOCIAL ASPECTS

Lets face it people, most Mac users are way cooler than their Windows counterparts. They seem to be more creative, open-minded, and educated; they even listen to better music!
In my own experience a month after purchasing my first MacBook I was on my way to becoming a creative artist. I started by creating a Youtube channel that got a fair amount of views, this lead me to purchase my first DSLR, which then lead me into the rabbit whole known as photography. It wasn’t the MacBook that made me become these things though... I always had an urge to create artwork, and to begin writing, but Windows distracted me too much, to many notifications, system issues, lag, updates, viruses, and other non-sense. I honestly do not believe that I would have ever achieved this level of work (www.scott-leonard.net) utilizing Windows.

Mac OS changed my life for the better, it brought out the creative person I had inside of me, it liberated me from the constant maintenance Windows demanded, it even changed my circles. I know the truth hurts, and right now I can hear the teeth of many Windows users gnashing, but one thing is true if you are truly an artistic person start using Mac OS you will never go back to Windows. In fact, Windows will disgust you.

Now, with that said, I would love to read your opinions on the subject, so don’t be afraid to confront me with your arguments in the comment section below, and don’t forget to subscribe to my RSS, thank you.

  1. One of my primary reasons for using PC versus Mac is the lack of games that one is able to play on Macs. Although I must admit that the user interface and simplicity design of Macs do make them very appealing. I remember wanting a pink one after watching the movie legally blonde. I still have a desire for my computer to have an outer shiny case versus a dull grey one, so maybe someday I'll find myself owning one as my primary computer and using a PC just for gaming purposes.
