Nature or Nurture : The American Black

BILL HAS GONE AND DONE IT AGAIN...They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.

I can't even talk the way these people talk:
Why you ain't,
Where you is,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...
And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.
And then I heard the father talk.
Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.
In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.
The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.
These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.
$500 sneakers for what?
And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.
Where were you when he was 2?
Where were you when he was 12?
Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol?
And where is the father? Or who is his father?
People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?
People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?
What part of Africa did this come from??
We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa .....I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid.
I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !
With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap ......... And all of them are in jail.Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.
We have got to take the neighborhood back.
People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.
We have millionaire football players who cannot read.
We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.
Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.
We have to start holding each other to a higher standard..
We cannot blame the white people any longer.'~Dr.. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby, Jr., Ed..D.

Unfortunately I could not agree more with Dr. Cosby. Right off the bat I would like to clarify that I am of African decent. Additionally I want to emphasis that I refuse, and denounce the derogatory term “African American” I consider myself simply a person born in America.

More than anything I am a human being, and I think that the idea of nations is primitive and obsolete; but that’s a topic for another time. In fact, at times it is amusing the terms human beings devise in order to create unnecessary conflict and hatred. Throughout recorded human history ethnicity has been one of these factors.

Dr. Cosby which if you are wondering, yes …is the same Cosby from television really hits the nail on the head, with a sledgehammer here.

Being of African decent but not necessarily growing up in the U.S has opened my eyes to a myriad of unfortunate truths regarding so many individuals of darker complexion. I know that the truth in most cases hurts, and I realize that even the most intellectual may wish to ignore the blunt and obvious truth. Additionally, I realize that many of you who wish to maintain the veil of disavowal and cloak of ignorance will instantly cover your ears and label me as a self-hater, I assure you I am not… I love myself more than anything else, hopefully that wasn't too narcissistic.

The truth is that so many of you, glorify ignorance. Every stereotype has its root in at least some truth, and from what I have observed so far this case differs little. Yes, the American justice system, education system, workforce, and financial system might be slightly to your disadvantage, I will give you that, but what have you done to change that? If anything your behavior has only cemented past prejudice.

On so many occasions I have had to interact with other individuals of Black or Hispanic decent and have found myself disappointed, and it has nothing to do with the color of their skin. These individuals lack everything I strive to achieve in life… but more than anything they lack ambition. I know that so many of you who read this would love to turn around, and point two-hundred plus years back to the oppression of your ancestors, but honestly is that an excuse for this lack of will power? In no way do I mean to offend anyone, but you do realize that Blacks are not the only group of people who have been enslaved, right? Many groups of people have been oppressed throughout human history, the Irish, Jews, Native Americans, ethnic groups in China & India, just to mention a few. Slavery is no excuse, were you a slave? Were your parents slaves? Were your grandparents slaves?

In addition, the fact that your ancestors were oppressed does not give you an excuse to not try as hard as the other ethnic groups to integrate and prosper.  It's sad to be honest, these people breed a culture of failure, and segregation; a culture that will only deteriorate their social position as society progresses.

We live in the information age, an age where the information to create prosperity is at our fingertips. Yet, I look around and I see a group of minority teens on the corner trafficking narcotics, helping to reaffirm the negative bias that exists within the American judicial system. Nobody reads, many black families put so much emphasis in sports that they forget that the world needs more than just athletes… where are the future writers, painters, engineers, doctors and other professionals? How many of them are black?
Go to any public school in America and talk to a young minority child… why are they talking in subpar English, why are they under preforming, why are they reading way below the level they should be for their age? Now go to their home, is it a home at all? What do their parents do? Minority America needs to wake-up! The issue has become one of nature or nurture, and it is rather disappointing.

The outsider begins to believe that it is simply your nature, that you are lazy, that you are stupid, that you simply lack sufficient competence to become an integral part of human society. It is not a fair assumption but that in no means is it an excuse to disregard the issue altogether.

One of the main problems I see with the American Black Culture is this fake pride they have. It’s a love hate kind of thing, one moment they seem to be segregating themselves an extreme case of xenophobia, and the next moment they are wallowing in self pity. Watching this type of behavior can be extremely aggravating to be honest, and I understand why so many of the non-black people that I have met instantly ignore any claim they make even if it is of legitimate discrimination. The bottom-line is that these people tend to segregate themselves, and then complain when they are rejected or not taken into consideration equally. Post Script; It isn’t because of the color of your skin; it is because of your blatant cultural dissidence.

What they on so many occasions claim is “white people” music, TV, radio, literature… Is in fact simply human literature… you have chosen to separate yourself from the mainstream, and unfortunately your folly decision affects everyone; you feed the beast you claim to be victims of.

I am rambling, so I will get to the catalyst of this talk… Black people in America need to turn off the TV, rap/R&B music, throw out the sports magazines, get rid of the ridiculous African status that liter their houses and read some books!  Educate yourselves, and stop “actin a fool”, stop trying to be different, and learn to adapt. Honestly, I have been in many houses of non-blacks, and I have never seen knights armor, or anything that points back more than 200 years in their homes. I suggest we follow the same trend and live for the future not the past! If you choose to not progress things will only get worst, it can get worst…

Anyway, I really hope to hear from those who disagree with me, please leave a comment… Additionally if you agree with me you are also free to leave a comment and please don’t forget to subscribe to my blog’s RSS and to share this article on social media…
